Sexual Health Curriculum

The Academy’s new sexual health curriculum covers essential topics health care providers should know. With our interactive online courses, you can ensure you are up-to-date on your sexual health clinical education at a time when it’s convenient for you.

Accredited for physician continuing education, continuing pharmacy education, and continuing nursing education, our curriculum supports all members of a multidisciplinary clinical care team.

Sexual Health Course One:

Communicating with Patients

Course One covers the ways providers can best communicate with patients when providing sexual health care. Modules include:

  1. Implicit Bias
  2. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  3. Building Intercultural Rapport
  4. Trauma-Informed Care
  5. Motivational Interviewing
  6. Sexual History
  7. How to Talk to Patients About Sexual Health
  8. Talking with Parents About Their Child’s Sexual Development

There is an emphasis on diversity, inclusivity and sex positivity. The course emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to sexual health care and illustrates how to apply the skills you learn to each patient’s unique needs.

Sexual Health Course Two:

Sexually Transmitted Infections

Course Two is designed to give health care professionals an overview of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) they may see among their patients. Modules include:

  1. Chlamydia
  2. Gonorrhea
  3. Syphilis
  4. Herpesvirus
  5. Pregnancy and STIs
  6. Reducing Adverse Outcomes of STIs

More modules to come! 

Modules cover the epidemiology of particular STIs, recent research, diagnosis and testing, and treatment options. Participants will learn about evidence-based research and clinical practice in the area of STIs, disparities in STI care, and partner notification and expedited partner therapy.
